Dr Ian Donnachie, Reader in History at The Open University in Scotland, has published extensivley in economic and social history, including a study of New Lanark (Edinburgh University Press, 1993, 1999) and a revisionist biography of Robert Owen, the social reformer (Tuckwell Press, 2000). He is also co-author with George Hewitt of the Collins Dictionary: Scottish History (HarperCollins, 2003). He is vice-chair of the Friends of New Lanark.
