Alexander MacEwan

Dr Alexander MacEwen (1823-1875) was the first minister of Claremont United Presbyterian Church.

Born in Edinburgh, MacEwen became the minister at Claremont in 1856 and was awarded the degree of DD by the University of Glasgow in 1864. He had the reputation of a liberal churchman and was responsible for the introduction of organ music at his church services. He was succeeded at Claremont UP Church by his son, Alexander R MacEwen.
