G B M Beatson

Godfrey B M Beatson (c 1827-1908) was Secretary of the Glasgow Royal Exchange 1873-1907.

Beatson was the son of a cutter captain. He joined the coastguard service, became an inspector, and was decorated for bravery. He also achieved a degree of fame as the inventor of the Vest Life-buoy. When he retired in 1873, Beatson became Secretary of the Royal Exchange.
