International Exhibition, 1901

Some of the leading personalities at the International Exhibition of 1901.

Samuel Chisholm was a successful businessman and a councillor who became Lord Provost 1899-1902. He was knighted in 1903.

H A Hedley was a South African who had managed a number of large exhibitions in England before his appointment as general manager of the International Exhibition of 1888. His energy and grasp of detail contributed greatly to the success of both exhibitions.

James Miller was the Glasgow architect responsible for the Exhibition’s acclaimed Industrial Hall. He also designed the new Glasgow Royal Infirmary and several large commercial buildings in the city centre.

Archibald Campbell, Lord Blythswood, was a former soldier and Conservative MP who served as the President of the 1888 and the 1901 Exhibition.

The 1901 Exhibition attracted a grand total of 11,497,220 visitors. Profits went to restore the park and to buy more exhibits for Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
