Tait's Directory p38

The first Glasgow directory was published in 1783 by John Tait. This image is taken from a facsimile reprint published in 1871 by Robert Forrester. Page 38 includes surnames from Houshold to Johnston.

William Ingram was the son of former provost Archibald Ingram. He was a partner in the firm of Campbell & Ingram, merchants and insurance brokers, along with John Campbell Jnr, who was later to become provost. Ingram was a founder member of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce in 1783 and was active in persuading other merchants to join.
