P. & W. MacLellan Ltd.

The engineers P & W MacLellan built this bridge over the Sonai River in 1895 for the Public Works Department, Assam. The illustration from the firm's product catalogue is superimposed upon an image of the firm's Clutha Works.

The steel bridge, consisting of a single span of 102 feet, was described in the firm's product catalogue as being of the suspension type, the main cables being made of flat bars supported on pin towers. The vertical suspenders are of round section and support lattice girders, carrying cross girders to which timber decking is fixed to form the road.
