Machinery on one of the purifier floors at Scotstoun Mills, as illustrated in a souvenir brochure issued by John White & Sons to commemorate the opening of the rebuilt flour and grain mills on the west bank of the Kelvin in January 1911.
Supplied by Henry Simon of Manchester, double dustless purifiers were located on the second and third floors of the Roller Mill building. They had an important role in the processing of wheat into flour. This involved the elimination of offal and the preparation (by means of gentle wind currents) of the the semolina and middlings extracted from the kernel of the wheat, for reduction into flour on the smooth rollers on the first floor.
