Pettigrew & Stephens Sale, 1933

Ladies' hats illustrated in Pettigrew & Stephens' sale catalogue, January 1933.

Unlike those of the 1920s, the hats of the 'thirties did not obscure the eyes, although the fashions for the first years were for drooping brims and draped hoods or for shallow hats tipped forward or to one side. By 1933 all shapes worn at all angles were popular - high, narrow and fez-like worn forward; berets; pill-boxes; small Breton sailors; long, narrow and boat-shaped or, in summer, large and wide.
