Pollok Leisure Pool

A photograph from Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin, September 1986, of the Queen Mother signing the visitors' book at Pollok Leisure Pool after performing the opening ceremony. She is watched by Lord Provost Robert Gray and other officials.

After unveiling a commemorative plaque, the Queen Mother toured the centre and chatted to staff, swimmers and schoolchildren. A posy of flowers was presented by five-year-old Karen McNicol, who was chosen for the honour as a winner of a painting competition. The Queen Mother went on to Pollok House for lunch and an informal tour of the building.

Special features at the Pollok Leisure Pool include flumes and wave machines. The centre is also home to Pollok Library, the Pollok Kist (a community museum), and a gymnasium with rowing machines and exercise cycles. Facilities are provided for various clubs, whose activities include judo, dancing, sports and fitness coaching, aerobics and yoga.
