Glasgow from the South

This engraving is by Robert Paul and is thought not to have been created before 1758. It shows the River Clyde and Glasgow from the south-east. The cone of the Jamaica Street Bottle Works can be seen belching smoke in the distance, to the west of the old Glasgow Bridge. The distinctive Merchants' Steeple is near the centre of the view, and the steeple of St Andrew's Church is on the right, above the line of trees that marked the edge of the New Glasgow Green. There are four men fishing with nets in the river.

This print would have been sold for sixpence by the Foulis Academy in the mid-18th century.
