Glasgow City Chambers

A policeman stands guard at the principal entrance to the City Chambers, facing George Square.

This entrance was strongly influenced by the Arch of Constantine in Rome. The band of sculpture above the door is part of a frieze which depicts the peaceful victories of art, science and commerce in place of the military triumphs celebrated by the Roman emperor. The city's coat of arms with the motto Let Glasgow Flourish is supported by figures representing Faith, Hope, Truth and Charity. Beyond this entrance is the Loggia.
