The owner of the shop on the corner of Meadowpark Street (left), and the publisher of the postcard, was Helen D Dunn. The signs on her general store indicate that customers could go there for everything from cigarettes to warm milk, or to have their washing mangled.
Local shopkeepers often published postcards with views of their premises. In an era when few homes had a telephone there were up to three posts delivered each day and a postcard message was the cheapest and often the fastest way to communicate with someone in a distant part of the city. A card posted early in the morning might be received by lunchtime, and a reply delivered in the afternoon.
