Mrs Lockhart

A Thomas Annan photograph of a portrait of Mrs Lockhart (1767-1833). The painting was by John Graham Gilbert.

Mrs Lockhart was the daughter of the Reverend John Gibson of Edinburgh and second wife of Reverend Dr John Lockhart. Her husband was minister of Glasgow's Blackfriars Parish Church for nearly fifty years from 1796 and was famed for his absent-mindedness. Their first son was John Gibson Lockhart (1794-1854) who was a journalist and editor. His most significant work was the Life of Sir Walter Scott, published in 1837.
