Hauling a loco

Taking a locomotive to the docks, 1949.

This steam locomotive was built by the North British Locomotive Co in 1949 for the Egyptian State Railways. It is pictured here being hauled through the streets of Glasgow to be loaded on a transport ship bound for Egypt. The great weight of the locomotive required the employment of two steam traction engines, a Burrell Simplicity and a Fowler Supreme. Note the police outrider on his motor cycle.
