Excavations near Provand's Lordship, 1993.
Provand's Lordship is close to the heart of mediaeval ecclesiastical Glasgow. In 1993 the Scottish Urban Archaeology Trust (SUAT) organised an excavation behind Provand's Lordship as the site was to be developed as a garden for the building. The photograph shows walls from 19th century tenements.
The archaeologist digging at the front of the trench is looking for traces of the Gyrth Burn. This stream marked the boundary of the ecclesiastical precinct when the Cathedral was first built in the 12th century.
