An invitation to a civic dinner to celebrate Queen Victoria's visit to Glasgow, 1849.
Queen Victoria paid an official visit to Glasgow in 1849 and was the first reigning monarch to visit the city since the 1600s. She arrived by steam yacht at the Broomielaw and departed the same day by train from Queen Street Station to Perth. During her time in the city she visited the University of Glasgow in High Street and Glasgow Cathedral, where she knighted Lord Provost John Anderson. An estimated 400,000 people lined the streets along her route through the city.
