Daily Record, 1913

A corner of the premises of the Daily Record & Mail, 1913. This area would surely fail to meet modern requirements regarding health and safety in the workplace!

The Daily Record printing works in Renfield Lane was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1900, when he was employed by the architects Honeyman & Keppie. The building's exterior was covered in white glazed brick on the upper floors, with coloured Art Nouveau style tiles at ground level. As can be seen here, the interior workspaces also had a white glazed brick or tile finish.
