Gorbals cap-making factory

The Collins cap-making factory in Oxford Street c 1910.

Solomon Collins was a Jewish immigrant who had previously worked in the cap-making industry in London. When he moved to Glasgow he established a cap-making workshop in the Gorbals. With a strong demand for his product (in the days when no working class man was properly dressed without his "bunnet") Collins was able to expand his business and move to a larger factory in Barrhead.
