Mrs Brown

Mrs Brown dusting a chair, photographed by her husband Duncan Brown in 1857.

Duncan Brown (1819-1897) was a talented amateur photographer whose work documents aspects of Glasgow life from the 1850s until the 1890s. His first wife died in the 1850s after twelve years of marriage and giving birth to six children (not all of whom survived). This lady was his second wife. The second Mrs Brown gave birth to four boys and a girl but died after ten years of marriage.

The little girl is probably one of Mrs Brown's step-daughters.
