Porcelain Centrepiece

A porcelain centrepiece cautiously attributed by provenance to the Delftfield Pottery Co.

The manufacture of porcelain began at the Delftfield Pottery in the 1790s. This centrepiece is believed to have been made there because the painted decoration is similar in style to other Delftfield pieces.

Centrepieces are decorative items which are placed in the middle of a table. This example has a drum-shaped base which is decorated with applied seashells and topped with scallop-shaped baskets. Ceramic struts support the upper tier and are also decorated with shells.
