An exhibition displaying material on the various themes covered by the Heatherbank Museum of Social Work at Glasgow Caledonian University, photographed c 2000. The Museum exists to increase public awareness of the social welfare needs of society, particularly those who are disadvantaged. It is the only museum entirely dedicated to social work and welfare in Europe.
The museum was founded in 1975 by Colin and Rosemary Harvey. It was originally housed in part of their early-Victorian house and the adjacent coach-house in Milngavie. In 1994, after both Colin and Rosemary had died, the museum was relocated in Glasgow Caledonian University. In 1996 the University took over responsibility for funding it and in 1999 new premises were developed on the main campus in the city centre. These premises are open to the public and contain gallery, office and resources base.
