Alexander Sim was a schoolteacher and first rector of Bellahouston Academy.
Born in Banffshire, Sim was educated at the University of Glasgow and became rector of St. Enoch's School. He greatly expanded St. Enoch's to the point where it was the largest school in Scotland with 1,200 pupils. He played a leading role in the establishment of Bellahouston Academy in 1878 as shareholder and first rector. Originally built as a private school, it was not a financial success and was eventually taken over by Govan School Board in 1885.
Alexander Sim was regarded as being ahead of his time in his provision of educational facilities. He was also a keen yachtsman and a member of the Royal Clyde Yacht Club.
