Joseph Brown

Dr Joseph Brown (1811-1897) was a minister of the United Presbyterian Church.

A native of Paisley, Brown's first ministry was at Dalkeith in 1834. He remained there until 1863 when he was called to be the first minister at the new United Presbyterian Church at Kent Road in Glasgow. From modest beginnings the church flourished under Dr Brown. By the time of his death it was one of the largest congregations in the city.

A staunch reformer, Brown was a member of the UP Revision Committee and was appointed Moderator in 1873. He was a prominent member of the Scottish Temperance League.
