Alhambra Theatre

In 1954 the Alhambra Theatre was taken over by Howard & Wyndham. Events such as Scotland's first Royal Variety Show in 1958, the appearance of the Bluebell Girls in 1960 and the Scottish premiere of My Fair Lady in 1964 kept the Alhambra at the forefront of Scottish live entertainment.

The Alhambra is perhaps best remembered for the show Five Past Eight, a lavish and spectacular revue which ran for regular series in the 1950s and 1960s. Large audiences were attracted, but the expense of putting on the shows meant that they were not very profitable. Regular favourites included Rikki Fulton and Jack Milroy (pictured), Jimmy Logan, Moira Anderson, Stanley Baxter and Kenneth McKellar, as well as international guests.
