Unity Theatre

The Unity Theatre was an appropriate name for a theatre company formed in 1941 by an amalgamation of five amateur theatre groups. Its aim was to be a people's theatre group which would encourage new drama relevant to working class life. Productions were staged at the Anethenaeum and Queen's Theatre, with both an amateur and a professional company working in parallel.

Although the company folded in 1947 it did give an opportunity for new talent to gain experience. The cast in this 1946 production of The Gorbals Story by Robert McLeish included Russell Hunter and Roddy McMillan.
