The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama relocated to a new brick building in Renfrew Street, designed by Sir Leslie Martin, in 1988. It included the New Athenaeum Theatre, illustrated here. Particular care was taken to ensure acoustic and sound proofing requirements met a high standard.
The new building was opened with a festival of music and drama attended by the Academy's patron, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
