The first Glasgow directory was published in 1783 by John Tait. This image is taken from a facsimile reprint published in 1871 by Robert Forrester. Page 40 includes surnames from Jack to Kirkland.
George Kippen was a successful tobacco merchant. With the profits from his business, he invested in the Dalnotter Iron Co and bought Busby estate.
