Tait's Directory p56

The first Glasgow directory was published in 1783 by John Tait. This image is taken from a facsimile reprint published in 1871 by Robert Forrester. Page 56 includes surnames from Park to Purden.

The shop owned by George Provan & Co was described as "a well-known and unpretentious little shop, which is situated a few doors north of the Cross Steeple, in High Street." The business, which later became Provan & Coats, sold paints, oils and general drysaltery goods.
