The "Argyle" overcoat, illustrated in the Walwer styles overcoats catalogue for the winter of 1939-1940 issued by Wallace & Weir, 26 Argyle Street, manufacturers of men's and boy's clothing. The Tailoring Department was located at nearby 42 Virginia Street.

Wallace & Weir was established around 1898 in Argyle Street, originally as "mantle manufacturers". Their product range was expanded to include coats, jackets, trousers and suits. The firm continued trading in Argyle Street until around 1970.
