Modern Homes Exhibition, 1956

The City Housing stand at the Modern Homes Exhibition in the Kelvin Hall, 1956. As the city's main housebuilder since the Second World War, Glasgow Corporation's Housing Department was regularly represented at the annual exhibition and its exhibits included displays of building plans, models or full size units such as those shown here.

The Modern Homes Exhibition, known in some years as the Living Ideas Exhibition or the Ideal Homes Exhibition, has been a regular event in October since the first post-war exhibition promoted by Glasgow Corporation in 1947. Private firms and public agencies are given the opportunity to display their plans and products to enthusiastic audiences, eager to learn about the latest trends in domestic living and interior design. The exhibition moved to the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in the 1990s.
