Andy Gray

Footballer Andy Gray with councillor Marjorie O'Neill and Anthony McKenna at the re-opening of Inchfad Recreation Centre, Drumchapel. The City Council rebuilt the facility, which offers a wide range of community recreational activities, after the original building had been destroyed by vandals. The photograph appeared in the June 1991 issue of Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin.

Andy Gray was born in Drumchapel. He played for Dundee United, Aston Villa, Wolves, Everton and Rangers and was capped twenty times for Scotland. In 1977 he became the only player to win the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards in the same season. Gray worked as a television pundit while assistant manager at Villa immediately after hanging up his boots in 1990, but soon chose to concentrate on a career in broadcasting. He won a Sports Presenter of the Year award for his coverage of the Premier League on Sky Television.
