Lord Darnley's Cottage at the Limmerfield in the Drygate, depicted c 1872 when it had become a barber's shop.
During the 1560s this building was the manse of the Parson of Campsie. It is said that Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley (c 1545-1567) lodged here when he visited his father the 4th Earl of Lennox in the city, and that it was while staying here that he first showed signs of illness (rumoured to be brought on either by syphilis or by poisoning) shortly before his assassination in Edinburgh in 1567.
