Shakespeare Street School

Showers at Shakespeare Street School in Wyndford. This school was newly completed when this photograph was taken in 1916. At a time when most tenements had only rudimentary washing facilities and most tenement dwellers shared stairhead toilets with their neighbours, the installation of showers in the school reflects Glasgow School Board's concern for pupils' health and cleanliness.

The school was designed by McWhannell, Rogerson & Reid and built in 1915. It had been demolished by the beginning of the 21st century.
