The Calendermen's Song on Liberty

"The Calendermen of Glasgow's Song on Liberty", a song preserved in a scrapbook entitled Old Glasgow Street Songs etc, 1850 which is held at the Mitchell Library.

Calenderers, or clothlappers, were employed in the textile industry to smooth and press finished cotton goods. This song from 1851 supports their call for a strike in support of a 12-hour working day.
