Macleod was minister of the Barony Church between 1851 and 1872 and chaplain to Queen Victoria. A bronze statue of him, by John Mossman, was erected in Cathedral Square in October 1881. It was paid for by public subscription and unveiled by Principal John Caird of the University of Glasgow.
