James Lochhead (1870-1942), architect.
Born in Johnstone in Renfrewshire, Lochhead trained as an architect in Ayr. He came to Glasgow as assistant to Boucher & Higgins and then worked in Glasgow Corporation's Office of Public Works. Lochhead also found employment at a lecturer in architecture at evening classes in the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College.
In 1900 Lochhead became a partner in the Hamilton firm of Cullen Lochhead & Brown and he was involved in projects such as Bluevale Public School in Dennistoun, Hamilton Academy and Blackpool Central Library and Art Gallery.
Lochhead took a keen interest in professional affairs. He was the first president of the Architectural Craftsmen's Society of Glasgow and a president of the Glasgow Architectural Association and of the Glasgow Institute of Architects. He was a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects and a Fellow of the Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.
