Brockburn Road

New two-storey flats built by Glasgow Corporation Housing Department at Brockburn Road, Pollok, in 1948. Each house has its own front door and individual balcony. Individual pram stores were included at ground level, so mothers did not have to haul prams up stairs.

A testimonial was published in the form of an interview with a tenant of one of the new Pollok houses:

"My husband and I have looked forward to this day for years, and we can hardly realise that it has come at last. We moved into this house with the help of our relations yesterday, who all expressed their joy at our good fortune.

It is a beautiful house, and I don't wonder that our friends are envious - they have every reason to be. My new kitchenette is a dream. It has a grand supply of hot water and a fine gas cooker and wash boiler. Work will become a real pleasure with these fine fittings. I am looking forward to my oldest son returning at Christmas time. He is a cook in the Army and will cook the Christmas dinner for me. I am sure that it will be an easy matter to do so in my new gas cooker."
