Coloured cartoon from the Northern Looking Glass October 1825 depicting the actress known as Miss Foote appearing on stage at the Theatre Royal as Letitia Hardy in a performance of "The Wedding Day".
Maria Foote (c 1797-1867) first appeared on stage in London in 1810 and was as celebrated for her beauty, as a mistress to several famous society men and for her involvement in a notorious breach of promise case, as she was for her acting abilities. She became the fourth Countess of Harrington.
This Miss Foote is apparently unrelated to the actress Miss Foote who was married to Mr Sleigh, a manager of Glasgow's Prince of Wales Theatre in the 1870s.
