Doon the Watter

A postcard with typically exhuberant impressions of a trip "doonra watter" by Glasgow's best-known cartoonist and caricaturist, Malky McCormick.

McCormick began entertaining audiences with his unique illustrations and caricatures in the late 1960s, originally while working as a graphic designer with Scottish Television. In 1975, with his friend and fellow banjo player Billy Connolly, he devised and wrote the hugely successful cartoon strip The Big Yin for the Sunday Mail. McCormick's artwork has been published in newspapers across Scotland and the UK. He was resident cartoonist on ITV's quiz show Win Lose or Draw for ten years, and in the 1970s was a member of the five-piece skiffle group, The Vindscreen Vipers. He continues to work as an artist at the beginning of the 21st century and is a popular after-dinner speaker, incorporating humorous in-situ sketches of his audience.
