Tommy Lorne (1890-1935), one of Glasgow's most popular music hall comedians.
Christened Hugh Gallagher Corcoran, Lorne was born in Kirkintilloch but raised in Cowcaddens. He became a comedian and a star of pantomime. A tall, angular man with a distinctive face and an equally-distinctive high-pitched voice, Lorne stood out from the crowd of Glasgow comics, and his excellent sense of timing and rapid-fire delivery proved immensely popular with audiences in the West of Scotland. In an age when each comedian had his own famous catch-phrases, Lorne punctuated his act with exclamations of "Ah'll get ye!"
Lorne became an alcoholic in his later years and died a young man. His funeral was held at St Roch's Church, where the parish priest was his friend Father Edward Lawton.
