Advertisement for John Anderson's Royal Polytechnic department store, in Glasgow University Magazine, 12 October 1927.

The advertisement was aimed at young women with an interest in fashion. It depicts four Parisian designs for coatfrocks with a description of each. The names of the dresses evoke the sophisticated and stylish themes of the Paris and Milan fashion houses: Monaclin, Rivoli, Deauville, and Narbonne.

The dresses show many of the features common to women's fashion in the 1920s, when sleeveless or cap-sleeved lightweight dresses with no waistline were very popular among young women. The body outline was a very straight, curveless figure with streamlined, close-fitting hats and hairstyles. Skirt lengths are between the knee and mid-calf.
