Advertisement for Wylie and Lochhead Ltd, cabinetmakers and upholsterers, in Ygorra, January 1950.
Wylie and Lochhead were particularly well known for the range and quality of their home furnishings. The firm also supplied ship and yacht interiors, catering to the busy shipyards along the Clyde.
By the 1890s the cabinet-making side of the business was the largest in Scotland, blending avant garde designs and traditional furniture styles. Among the notable designers to work for the firm were Ernest Archibald Taylor and George Logan. In 1901 the firm's Art Noveau pavillion for the Glasgow International Exhibition was widely praised, and Wylie & Lochhead were granted a Royal Warrant as cabinetmakers and upholsterers to King Edward VII. The company was acquired by House of Fraser in 1957.
