Further exploration showed that the site had been a Bronze Age cemetery containing a number of burials. Five of the graves contained bodies laid to rest in stone cists. Another skeleton was found buried in what may have been a wooden coffin. A deposit of cremated bone was also found.
During the Bronze Age (2300-700 BC) the dead were often buried with items such as jewellery, weapons, food or pottery. Food vessels date to the earlier Bronze Age (2300-1400 BC) and were often made specially for burial with the dead.
