The Museum Education Department ran a variety of activities for schoolchildren, including art classes and talks. Out-of-school activities included after-school films (from 4.30 to 6.00 pm) on topics such as art and geography, as well as classics such as Hamlet. Louise Annand, an Education Assistant, ran Contemporary Painting art appreciation classes on Saturday mornings. This group is looking at Maria, a painting of his wife by David Donaldson (1916-1996) which the museum bought in 1950. Annand (b 1915) is an artist in her own right and has worked in a variety of media.
In 1955 Partick Camera Club set out to create a photographic survey of Glasgow. As the project progressed, other camera clubs joined and each was allocated a district of the city to photograph. Glasgow Museums exhibited the photographs at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and at the People's Place, and in 1956 the exhibition was shown at the Palace of Art in Bellahouston Park. The photographs are now part of Glasgow Museums' collections.
