Weighing salmon in the Fish Market, 1955. Despite its title, there is not a salmon to be seen in this chicken-filled photograph! The salmon-weighing is presumably happening out of view to the right.
In 1955-1956 the Glasgow Fish Market handled 586,059 boxes of fresh fish, 18,028 boxes of herring and 896,123 boxes of cured fish as well as 668 hampers of rabbit, 34,970 boxes of fowl and 285 hundredweight of venison.
In 1955 Partick Camera Club set out to create a photographic survey of Glasgow. As the project progressed, other camera clubs joined and each was allocated a district of the city to photograph. Glasgow Museums exhibited the photographs at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and at the People's Place, and in 1956 the exhibition was shown at the Palace of Art in Bellahouston Park. The photographs are now part of Glasgow Museums' collections.
