Boys' Brigade membership card, 1932-1933.
By 1933, the BB's jubilee year, membership had risen to 111,871 Boys and 52,219 Lifeboys (the junior organisation of the movement, founded after the First World War for boys aged 8-12 years). Glasgow, where the BB was founded and where there were 253 companies, was the focus of the jubilee celebrations. These culminated on Jubilee Sunday when 130,000 men, women and boys crammed inside Hampden Park and another 100,000 packed the streets outside, to listen to a service of worship conducted by the Right Reverend Lauchlan Maclean Watt. The following day, there was a mass day-trip "doon the watter" on specially-chartered Clyde steamers.
