Staff of the Glasgow Decked Lifeboat Co, Shettleston, gathered together for a group photograph in 1913. Shettleston does not normally come to mind as a centre of Glasgow shipbuilding, but lifeboats could presumably be transported quite easily by road to the river or sea where they were required.
Glasgow was at its peak in 1913 in terms of the variety of goods produced in its many factories and workshops. For example, the Post Office directory for that year has two entries under "lifeboat launching gear manufacturers," and four under "lifebuoy manufacturers."
