Electric Dinner Wagon

An electric dinner wagon in Glasgow Royal Infirmary, c 1930.

The reconstruction of the infirmary buildings in the early 1900s created a vast hospital complex, and it became a severe logistical challenge to transport hot meals from the kitchens to the wards before they cooled. The introduction of electrically-heated food transporters provided a more efficient way of delivering meals to the patients.
