A portrait by R G Crawford of William Loudon Reid (1845-1931), a Glasgow obstetrician and President of the Royal Society of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow , 1905-1907.
Reid studied at the University of Glasgow until 1866 and set up in general practice in the city before going to study in Europe. He returned to Glasgow and graduated MD in 1869, becoming a Fellow of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons in 1877. He was appointed Outdoor Physician-accoucheur to the Glasgow Maternity Hospital. In 1883 he became a lecturer in Clinical Obstetrics there, and was promoted to Chief in 1892. In 1894 he was appointed Visiting Physician for Diseases of Women at Glasgow Western Infirmary.
Reid also held positions at the Anderson's College of Medicine and the Royal Samaritan Hospital for Women.
